Houses and Lots, Residential Lots: DANEMEAD Cottage Living lot – Picture Amoebae.
The best Miss Marple is objectively Joan Hickson. She lived in a cottage called Danemead, the exterior of which was filmed using Dane Cottage in Nether Wallop (yes, that’s a real place) in Hampshire. There are a few photos online of what it looks like, and I’ve tried to recreate the general feel of the place here.
The real place looks like it has a smaller cottage attached to it as part of the same building on the right, and on the left, in a separate building that seems to be linked by a covered passage, is an old village shop. I’ve included both here. Both have very cramped living quarters, but I have sims living in them and they have all the basics they require. The village shop is fully stocked, and has a chicken coop out back for fresh eggs.
The main cottage is a large, homely space befitting the world’s best old lady detective. Coming in the small entry way, to the left is a large sitting room with impressive fireplace and large hearth. To the back is an area with a desk for your own budding detective to do her research and start solving those mysteries. To the front is a piano, and knitting and cross-stitch supplies. A cosy seating area fills the central sitting room space, where Miss Marple enjoys entertaining the local vicar, and interrogating the more suspicious of St Mary Mead’s inhabitants, entirely without their knowledge.
Off to the right of the entrance way is a small but cosy dining room, and through an archway is the comfortable kitchen, which leads out to a well-appointed back garden, complete with small vegetable patch, as well as manicured borders and a table with chairs, behind which are Miss Marple’s beloved rose bushes.
